SIPTU Sector Organiser, Alan O’Leary, said: “The announcement of this sale, which is subject to regulatory approval, was unexpected. It has resulted in considerable concern about their future among the 400 workers employed at the plant which has been in operation for more than 40 years.

“We are seeking an urgent meeting with GSK senior management to ensure that the employer provides written and concrete commitments to our members that their jobs are safeguarded. Commitments will also be required confirming that all existing terms and conditions of employment as well as collective agreements remain intact and will be honoured in full by the new owners.”

He added: “The priority is for consultation with union members at the plant so that their major concerns can be relayed directly to their employer as GSK has an obligation under EU directives and Irish legislation to consult fully and in good time with the union concerning this proposed sale.”
