An event celebrating the centenary of the 1913 Lockout and the history of trade unionism in the Galway area will take place in the SIPTU Offices on Forster Court, Galway City, on Thursday, 2nd May, at 7.00 p.m. Hosted by the SIPTU Galway District Committee, the event will include presentations by local labour historians, John Cunningham and Mary Clancy. Other speakers will recall their own involvement in key events in the history of trade unionism in Galway.  SIPTU Galway District Committee Secretary, Diane Jackson, said: “It is appropriate to mark the occasion of the centenary of the 1913 Lockout and celebrate Galway’s rich trade union heritage around May Day, which is the traditional day to celebrate workers and their achievements.“Members from almost every trade union active in the city will be in attendance at this event which is an indication of the importance workers attach to their local trade union history.”
