SIPTU representatives will meet with the management of Baxter Healthcare tomorrow (3rd December) to discuss its announcement of 110 redundancies at the company’s plant in Castlebar, Co. Mayo. The meeting follows an announcement by Baxter Healthcare that the permanent weekend working crew at its plant in Castlebar will be reduced from 180 workers to 70 early in 2014.SIPTU Organiser, Frank Jones, said: “This is devastating news for our members in Baxter Healthcare which currently employs approximately 1,000 workers in Mayo at sites in Castlebar and Swinford.”“The SIPTU Section Committee, which represents our members working at Baxter Healthcare, will meet with management at the company tomorrow (3rd December) morning. The purpose of this meeting is to explore the potential to reduce the number of proposed job losses and to try and ensure that no compulsory redundancies are implemented.”
