The SIPTU Education and Development Support (Scholarship) Scheme is a cornerstone of the Union’s commitment to empowering its members through education.
Designed to foster trade union activism and uphold SIPTU’s core values, the scheme offers scholarships that support both the personal and professional development of members and their families.
Key features of the scheme include:
- Values-Driven Awards: Scholarships celebrate not only academic excellence but also activism, organisational ability and the promotion of social justice through arts, music and culture.
- Creative Component: Second-level applicants must submit a creative work relevant to their chosen award category, ensuring a strong connection between recipients and union values.
- Equitable Access: Successful families become ineligible for future awards, allowing more members’ families to benefit over time.
- Adjudication: Applications are judged by a panel, with final approval from the National Executive Council.
- Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be SIPTU members for at least one year by the closing date and must be in benefit at the time of application and payment. All applications must be confirmed by the applicant’s Sector Organiser and submitted by the deadline.
