SIPTU’s Health Division has secured an agreement with Corlann to grant an additional day’s annual leave to employees in the Care Assistant Intellectual Disability, Instructor and Senior Instructor grades across the organisation.
The agreement follows months of constructive engagement between the Union and Corlann’s national HR department and senior management team.
The achievement ensures that members in these grades are now aligned with their comparable colleagues employed in Intellectual Disability Services within the HSE, addressing a long-standing disparity in annual leave entitlements.
SIPTU ID Care Sector Organiser Sharon Cregan said: “SIPTU welcomes this positive development, which represents meaningful recognition of the invaluable contribution made each day by Care Assistant Intellectual Disability, Instructor and Senior Instructor staff.
“Members in these grades play a vital role in supporting people with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling lives and are central to the delivery of high-quality services throughout Corlann nationally.
“The outcome demonstrates the value of collective representation and sustained engagement on behalf of members.
“It reflects SIPTU’s commitment to ensuring that members’ terms and conditions of employment are treated fairly and remain in line with appropriate sectoral standards.”
Cregan said engagement between SIPTU and Corlann management is continuing on a number of other collective matters of importance to members.
She said: “These include ongoing discussions regarding the development of a clear and equitable Out-of-Pocket Expenses Protocol for staff who may incur expenses while accompanying people they support on social outings, community activities and other approved events.
“SIPTU is actively pursuing arrangements that ensure staff are not financially disadvantaged in the course of carrying out their duties and responsibilities.
“Your Union remains committed to working constructively with management to advance the interests of members and to secure further improvements in pay, conditions and workplace supports across the organisation.”
