Health Care Assistants (HCAs) in Monaghan General Hospital launched their new uniform in April in the shade of Caribbean Blue.

The designated uniform will provide a professional identity for Health Care Assistants, who play a vital role in patient care.

The distinctive Caribbean Blue colour will make it easier for patients to identify team members across hospitals and clinics nationwide.

SIPTU Care Sector President and SIPTU NEC member, Ann Marie Tibby, said: “We’re delighted with this new Health Care Assistant uniform. We had a lot of resistance to it, and I just can’t believe the day is here.

“It’s so important for us to be recognised as a Health Care Assistant, to have our own identity for the work and to be recognised for the work we do because now when we walk onto a ward, the patient in the bed knows that that’s the Health Care Assistant!”

Sector Organiser, Liz Cloherty, welcomed the introduction of the new uniform, saying: “The Caribbean Blue uniform is a symbol of unity and identity of our HCA members and the professional care they provide across Ireland’s health services.”

“Our members have remained resolute in their campaign for respect and recognition for the invaluable work HCAs contribute to our society. The launch of their new uniform marks another milestone in this achievement.”
