SIPTU nursing manager members voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action and strike action over the failure of the HSE and Department of Health to implement pay recommendations 42 and 43 under the Expert Review Body on Nursing and Midwifery.
Implementation Action Group 5 (IAG5) was established to assist with implementation of the recommendations of the Expert Review Body to replace the hospital banding system for the purposes of determining the pay rates for senior nurse and midwife manager grades and those linked to them.
Following the announcement of the strong vote in favour of industrial and strike action, all three unions involved have engaged on the next steps of the campaign to secure implementation of the recommendations.
SIPTU has informed the Department of Health and the HSE of our position and will be engaging with the members on the course of action to be taken should no resolution be forthcoming.
Sector Organiser Damian Ginley said: “Our members have given a clear signal to the Department of Health that they will take whatever action is necessary to resolve this dispute.
“We call on Departmental officials and the HSE to confirm their agreement to the full implementation of the recommendations as set out in the Implementation Action Group 5 discussions.”
